Laundry Day

Here is my British washing machine, which I don't care for much!
It isn't very big,
I can wash about four large bath towels and it struggles.
I don't know how moms with large families do it.
I chose the "cotton" setting to wash my whites.
I chose the "30" option (30, 40, 60 or 90 are your options.)
I put my laundry in at 7:03.
It was done at 9:30.
That was the short cycle!!!
I did a "mixed load - 30."
I put that load in at 10:15 and it was done at 11:36.
Much shorter - I think I will use that cycle the most.
I also understand that these machines are very hard on your clothes.
I can understand - they wash them for eternity!
When the load is done the machine beeps.
It will beeps for 30 minutes if you don't turn it off.
The dryer however, doesn't beep.
I have to iron everything, even t-shirts and jeans.
They come out sooooo wrinkled.
I have tried to make a positive out of it though.
I iron and watch movies so it makes it not so bad!

Angus in Angus, Church

Here is Angus, aka Bud, In Angus!
We were driving south to Montrose
to go to an Antique Auction
(more of that on a later post)
when we came across this sign.
We could not resist.
Is it ironic that Bud,
who raised Angus Beef in the US,
which he had to sell,
in order to come and live
in the birth place of
Angus Beef?!!!
I wonder if that qualifies as
having come full circle?

On another note, Bud got called to be
the 1st Counselor in the Young Men's.
They have not had any counselors before -
they only have three young men!
Another will be coming in shortly.
How fun is that!

New Layout

So I changed my blog layout,
and I kinda like it.
However,
there are few things I can't change.
Like my bottom gadget's color!
What the heck!!!!
I was not given the option to change the color.
I have searched the layout options over and over,
and I can't figure it out.
Any suggestions?
Also the color of the bar where it says,
"posted by, date and time, labels."
I hate being blog impaired!

Ward Choir Director!

Gotcha!
How many of you saw that and said "No Way!"
If you know me, you know I can't carry a tune in a bucket!!

I was asked to be the 1st Counselor in the Relief Society.
It is a calling I have had before and quite enjoyed.
You don't have to be the President
and you don't have to be over Enrichment!
The best place to be, right in the middle.

Now if I can just learn to understand what they are saying.
Evidently the RS president asked me what my last name was.
She was putting my number in her cell phone.
She said something about Surname.
Then she made a comment about that is your last name.
Then she giggled as I looked confused.
I asked Bud on the way home what she was talking about.
He said she wanted to know what your last name was!
I could of killed him!!
I said why didn't you say something.
Bud said, " I figured if you wanted her to know your last name
you would of told her."
Ugh!!!
Do I feel dumb!
At least she got a good laugh out of it.

Bud's New Wheels

Bud's new sweet ride. Volvo XC60.
Not what I thought he would ever drive but it is super nice.

I have a black Land Rover Freeland, 2001 with 31,000 miles on it.
We paid £3000 for it. Pretty good deal.
The people were expats moving back to the US.
They wanted to get rid of it.
It is in very nice condition and has heated seats - YEAH!

Mad Cow?, Tomato Sauce

The other day I bought some mince (hamburger) and
I was entranced by the label. Shows -
Country of Origin: UK
Slaughtered in: UK
Cut in: UK
Minced in: UK
Country of Birth: UK
Could that be a result of the Mad Cow Disease of years ago?
I don't know but that would be my guess.
(Sorry I could not get the picture to rotate.)

Also I thought it was interesting that tomato paste
came in a metal tube!

Abbey at Holyrood

The old abbey at the Holyrood Palace.

In my limited amount of touring,
I have found that the places that are in ruins are my favorites.

The architecture is amazing.

The detail that was put into these memorials are fantastic.

LaNice taking a break.

To think that these edifices are hundreds of years old.

I thought that these were interesting.
I have not seen that type of memorial before.

Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh

LaNice and I took the train to Edinburgh on a Monday morning
and came back on a Tuesday night. Here is one portion of our trip.
Holyrood Palace - it is at the end of the Royal Mile,
down from Edinburgh Castle.

This is the Queen's official residence when she is in Edinburgh. We got to tour a wing of the palace that Mary, Queen of Scots lived in. It was very dark - the wood, tapestries, etc. I am not sure I would have wanted to live in it. However the furniture was very ornate, paintings everywhere, and the tapestries were magnificent (they were quite faded but you can imagine how beautiful they were several hundreds of years ago.
Quite good preservation actually.)

This is the entrance to the courtyard.

The top of the entrance to the courtyard.
I liked how it looks like a crown.

This is a crest on the entrance.
The Scottish people actually believed that unicorns were real,
I believe as recently as the 1600's but I may be mistaken on that.
The unicorn was actually used as a representation of Christ.

LaNice by the gates to the palace.
I don't think they are actually used
as there are barriers on the other side.

You will see these unicorn statues at palaces or in the tapestries.

Fearsome looking guard!
