Rothenburg City Wall: One of the highlights of Rothenburg is the city wall. As with most medieval cities, Rothenburg was encircled by a tall protective wall. While most city walls have deteriorated and/or been torn down, Rothenburg's wall has been preserved and is in excellent condition today. The wall is between 1.5 and 2 miles in length and worth the time and effort to explore it. Maybe the best example of a city wall in Germany (or possibly Europe), I would recommend visiting.

The wall is covered along its entirety
Some of the walls are shorter depending on the surrounding landscape
Gate in the wall with a smaller gate used for entry during the night--allowing only one person at a time to enter. Night entrants generally had to pay a fine for entry after the gates were locked.
